Debian

The distributor Debian has a policy that now seems to place them in a real dilemma: if they agree to adopt certain new cacracterísticas own times as desired to achieve by any project that seeks to entice users, but in this case the cost is perhaps risking the element that served as a framework for their own identity formation: stability. Conversely, if you do not agree to these developments and keep resisting as they have been doing for years will be ensured stable identity but at the cost of losing a large amount of public and users who may take it as their own. What to do?

Evidently, and according to what has been commenting on the web these days, Debian would be willing to pay the price of the first alternative, since a target server and can not afford professional environments, and would like to access layers broader population. Now, as we said, the price or condition of this possible is bound to leave that paragon of political stability that made each update comes after several years of waiting.

In that sense has been discussed within the areas of Debian the possibility of incorporating the environmental latest GNU / Linux or Ubuntu or also OpenSUSE, as is the use of PPAs.

We'll see how it is for these experiments and whether Debian finally get the desired objective without neglecting the brand that set him apart in the market.

Mark Shuttleworth has proposed that certain strategic package versions are common between the distributions that have extended periods of maintenance. In his blog Shuttleworth suggests for example that LTS Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL and SLES versions remain common kernel, GCC, Python, Perl, Openoffice and Boost, so you get a partnership with real benefits.

After spending some time trying distributions is best suited to my eee pc , come to the conclusion that it would be best to leave Ubuntu eee and wait for the official Ubuntu , but I found a sailing thread on that boys had Mandriva with One 2009 claimed that its distribution could read all the hardware of an eee pc, without having to make any changes and even more in LiveCD mode, so tired of messing in Debian and Ubuntu 8.10 I decided to test it and the bottom line is more than satisfactory because it detects all the first (including wifi), runs fast and gives no problem with the installation, if not set at this v ideo .

Those of you with an Asus eee pc and want a distribution that is stable, agile, with all drivers and most used plugins, you have to try Mandriva Linux One 2009.
