This draft is expected in i386 for the May 28 and unless the release would cause delays on 9 July (RC1 calculated for 11 June and the RC2 for 25). While not much information available about new features, shortly after desktop version would iXsystems better known as PC BSD 8.1 and some preliminary changes that have occurred in the same state: KDE 4.4.3 update, error correction in pc-sysinstall, new options in the Software Manager, more functionality in ZFS, among others pending. Just for testing Irlo are some snapshots available in May . Also there are in FreeBSD current 9.0 for those who dare to deal with more problems than usual PC-BSD.

The FreeBSD team announced that version 8 of its operating system has entered Beta stage. The first RC and the final are scheduled for July 27 and August 31 respectively.

It was released FreeBSD 7.1 few days ago. With this release the ULE scheduler and DTrace tool will come built into the system, and enhancements in NFS and multithreaded tasks.
