HTML 5: Theora against H.264, fighting encrudece

Youtube (Google) has opted initially for encoding H.264 for its video portal, a move that may ultimately determine the balance. Remember that it was Youtube who did Flash grow as technologies for online video at the time of Realplayer, Quicktime and WMV. And it may happen again this time.

Until now the fight was relatively equal, with some browsers that support one format or another, but no big portal was clearly positioned videos (except for Theora daylimotion.com). Now the movement of Youtube (and Vimeo) to H.264 has set off alarm bells in Mozilla, which looks like the free option loses strength.

Several media outlets in the sector have echoed the reasons why H.264 is not included in Firefox , which has generated some excitement. From the FSF (Free Software Foundation) was asked to vote in favor of Theora in Google surveys .
