First stable version of MariaDB
MariaDB 01/05/1942 is the first stable version of the database server based on MySQL.
MariaDB has been created by Michael "Monty" Widenius, the creator in the days of MySQL. After some time working for SUN (MySQL owner) decided to create a company Ab Monty Program to develop MariaDB (such as a fork of MySQL, in fact holds the version number).
Moreover Widenius has led a strong campaign to keep MySQL under a separate company with the purchase of SUN by Oracle. Coincidence or not, has released the first stable version of MariaDB days after the Commission authorized the purchase of Oracle. Database engine which includes XtraDB as a substitute for InnoDB, which also belongs to Oracle.
The founder of MySQL Oracle distrusts
Michael Widenius, founder of MySQL, has recently stated that his biggest rival was more common and Oracle while managing MySQL AB. These statements feed the reluctance of the European Commission to merge Oracle - Sun, caused mainly by the possible competition.
Moreover, the new draft Michael Wideniu, the database MariaDB has entered Beta state . MariaDB is an offshoot from the engine that uses MySQL Maria. It is presented as a community-based development as an alternative to MySQL.
