The Catholic Church calls for fasting during Lent technology
Italian Catholic bishops have asked their parishioners to stop using both high-tech means such as appliances during Lent, thus giving from the Internet, email, SMSn among others.
This new type of withdrawal due to the care provided by their own religious hierarchy in relation to the use of technology and in some cases abuse the use of it. As an example, the Modena diocese have asked to abstain from the use of electronic messages on Fridays of Lent which ends this year on Sunday 12th April.
'' It's a small way to remember the importance of concrete and not virtual relationships [...] It is an instrument to remind us that our actions and lifestyles have consequences in distant countries. "
The day without SMS, and have called on Fridays of Lent joins the suggestion of the diocese of Turin, which suggested to his parishioners do not watch television during this period of time. Although there are more "suggestions": leave the car at home and bike or public transport, to refrain from throwing chewing gum on the street and start recycling waste; enjoy the silence in a week without internet and iPods.
But one thing is clear, and as stated by one of the priests of a Roman basilica, Giancarlo Angelo Andreis, "if technology is needed for work, meaningless (abstinence)."

Respecting the beliefs and views from around the world, I would leave the church to put in everything, in politics, in exchange, in the family, etc, if they engage in some work that well they would fare.
Well, for once I have to defend the Church. They do not say that none of this is bad, just that recommend abstinence during Lent, which depends on how you're a religious matter or not. Something very different is that try to influence the laws of a country by eating the head people of faith.
