The Catholic Church calls for fasting during Lent technology
Italian Catholic bishops have asked their parishioners to stop using both high-tech means such as appliances during Lent, thus giving from the Internet, email, SMSn among others.
This new type of withdrawal is due to the attention paid by their own religious hierarchy in relation to the use of technology and in some cases abuse of the use of it. As an example, the diocese of Modena have called for abstention from the use of electronic messages on Fridays of Lent, which ends this year on Sunday 12th April.
'' It is a modest way to remember the importance of specific and non-virtual relationship [...] It is a tool to remind us that our actions and lifestyle have an impact on distant countries. "
A day without SMS, and have called on Fridays of Lent joins the suggestion of the diocese of Turin, which suggested to his parishioners not to watch TV in that time period. Although there are more "suggestions": leave the car at home and cycle or use public transport to refrain from throwing chewing gum on the street and begin recycling waste; enjoy the silence in a week without internet or iPods.
But one thing is clear, and as stated by one of the priests in a Roman basilica, Angelo Giancarlo Andreis, "if the technology is needed to work, no sense (withdrawal)."

Respecting the beliefs and views from around the world, I wish the church were allowed to put in everything in politics, in exchange, in the family, etc, if they devote to work a little but they would go.
Well, for once I have to defend the Church. They do not say that none of this is bad, only recommend abstinence during Lent, which depends on how religious you are in you mind or not. Another thing different is that try to influence the laws of a country by eating the head people of faith.
