We've spent years being spectators of the struggle between systems operating for a share of the pie in the server market and the desktop. However with the advent of mobile high-performance (or smartphones) presents a new cake, and everyone is looking for his piece.

This same weekend appeared Android 1.5, Google's proposal for the phone market. A Linux-based operating system that is taking its first steps , with a low market share but even with high expectations, even outside the mobile market.

The great veteran Symbian , although it has much of the cake and had seen its role decline for new proposals. The acquisition by Nokia has sown some doubts, but has never spoken to him after the announcement that will be free software. The very success of the Nokia series Nxx guarantees permanence in the market for a long time as number one.

The company RIM BlackBerry flagship product and are very entrenched in certain segments, enduring the onslaught of other products. Although not often hear about the "RIM operating system" as such, the company remains confident in him, for they have recently created an online application store.

Although Microsoft's proposal for the phone market is widespread, Windows Mobile fails to generate the expectation of Symbian, RIM or iPhone. Recently with the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5 have created a style store AppStore for own and third party applications.

PalmOS is a special case. Palm was without doubt one of the first-market mobile devices, including wireless. The success of Palm products have been descended, and the popularity of PalmOS has been affected to such an extent that even several phones of the company began selling Windows Mobile. Now prepare to launch Palm Pre with a new philosophy of operating system (Linux based), the great hope of the company.

Finally I turn to a product that arrived two years ago but has had a major impact since then, the iPhone. The Apple phone equipped with an adapted version of MacOS X, keeping the sense of working with Apple. Sales of phones, the existence of iTunes and AppStore , and the constant media attention are factors that keep as a reference product.
