Meerkat Ubuntu

The new version of Ubuntu to come, namely the Meerkat 10.10 Maverick will not work with processors that do not reach a minimum of architecture i686. This would have opened the debate both in the community of developers and the user community about whether this determination is not sharp in danger of being equivalent to an act of discrimination.

Is that many may wonder why Ubuntu has set this arbitrary cut. Is that we all know that this is so, the family-i586 to name just a case-has a major role in home computing. Setting this selection Ubuntu people were leaving out of its potential users a lot of people whose processors not meet the minimum requirements for compatibility.

But this would be interpreted accurately. Not as much as the particular act of discrimination, and therefore the moral condemnation that could conceivably alsarce against Ubuntu, but rather as a case in an objective trend of the resulting complex escape.

On the one hand the multiple OS are improving their performance every day, enriching their own internal structure and providing a user experience development of perfect ease and oiled. But this progress in systems operating at the same time implies a need for parallel progress on the processors. And while progress is evident in the field of technological development and technological progress of the different architectures, it is also true that the very subjectivity of many users it still will not start with full strength.

What accounts for this gap between supply highly developed technically objective and subjective reception quite alien? Is it perhaps due to a delay by the subjective reception, a delay is specified in an inability to consume that which is presented in the offer? Or the problem is the same offer as he is unable to access the users' homes?

  2. The truth seems to me quite logical step (could have done it before).
Basically because they use the processing power of users of Ubuntu (not much, 5% as much, but it's free).
Also Ubuntu is not a system for less powerful computers (much less) even Xubuntu or Lubuntu are.
