In 2002 Linspire created CNR for installations web basing on APT Debian and dpkg (Debian packages) from C + + GUI developed in Qt framework and API integration gSOAP framework, in April 2006 recently is released under an open source license and 2007, the platform is operational for other distributions (Debian, Ubuntu, Freespire, Linux Mint). Side of SOA JEE server and works with MySQL, with 8 webservices APIs performs its task, extending then to RPM packages (OpenSuSE, Fedora). In July 2008, everything is left to Xandros.
In 2005 Novell developed under BSD license the tool deltarpm , a quick web check is the difference between new and old versions of RPM, Red Hat, CentOS, Fedora and all its derivatives are proud of so much innovation in replacement and upgrade package that attuned to Apt and rpmforge dependencies leads to software publications preceding the second within our system.
In 2004 from Germany the idea of self-contained software that is packaged in a. Cmg continent packets similar to Mac OS X install / uninstall a simple click / delete it, called klik and only at the cost of a little more RAM and disk space the application does not spread by the file system or cause broken links with conflicting libraries are superimposed installation after installation (because Linux has no record). Klik works from a web browser plugin and plans to integrate natively klik2 proposed in kernel module Filesystem in Userspace (FUSE). Klik is a single compressed image and can be installed on a live cd read only.
One Click Install for openSUSE is a YMP file has XML based and can be implemented in other distributions adapting to the client for reading instruction declarative code files. Is with us since 2008.
dpkg has been developed by Ian Murdock does Añares to install, list and remove packages. deb (then come aptitude and synaptic) Slax now uses it to build its modules. LZM (deb2lzm source_filename.deb [output_file.lzm]). The dpkg-dev born in Perl and was later rewritten in C, consisting of 7 tools to unpack, build and package discharge.
In the passage of Slax 5 (UnionFS) to Slax 6 (AUFS) changed the extension modules. Mo a. LZM, these modules with compression system LZMA are read-only files SquashFS. This is the ultimate method to update the live-cd Slackware derivative, not used or slapt-get pkgtools fundamental tools for working with TGZ packages. With respect to embedded LZMA mentioned efficiency much higher than the already efficient if BZ2 compression levels (chosen by iXsystems format for packets TBZ) in addition to speed of execution, until recently lacked the Squash filesystem with official support from the kernel algorithm for lossless Lempel-Ziv-Markov, the Zlib not allow it, but I understand the change came with the recent emergence of Linux kernel 2.6.29.

Just missing that can be updated kernel, xorg, gcc glibc-plus usermode drivers, GUI desktop, multimedia modules / network package manager to mention hundreds of applications available today without decompressing or recompile code or tweak the bugs and incompatibilities of never Finally, and this union of convenience MacOS, Linux and Canonical to pbi packages of iXsystems what brings a philosophy Linux Foundation Update (Microsoft download center type) centralized, leaving behind the advantages apt-synaptic on Debian or e-building Gentoo Portage.
It is true that this is a reality in PCBSD 7.1.

  6. I have 10 years "living" in the Linux world. I've seen evolve several distributions. I have tried many over the years. I used distributions of "fashion" of the moment, and I've also used most of the systems packages that speak, but after reading this post and "trying" to understand, I have all much less clear than it was 10 minutes. Nevertheless, I hope that someone will look like a great exercise in writing ...
