Windows XP SP2 and the lack of security patches

Windows XP SP2 and vulnerabilities
Microsoft has detected attacks on a critical vulnerability in Windows Shell, and affects all versions of Windows XP, Server 2003 and 2008, Vista and 7, in both 32 and 64 bits, including service packs. This makes the first serious and exploitable vulnerability is not patched Windows XP SP2, after the withdrawal of support for both this version to Vista RTM.
If for whatever reason you have not installed SP3 on Windows XP (or Vista SP1 or SP2), you need to have it clear that this operating system only allows protected by very uncomfortable tricks. Although not on the list of Microsoft, we must assume that Windows 2000 is vulnerable and will not patch, to entirely eliminated its support last week.
It is worth clarifying that the bug is in the management of shortcuts ("shortcuts") from Windows, in particular file that stores information relating to such access (with extension. "Lnk"). Apparently, Windows makes a mistake in interpreting these files, so that only takes the user to see the contents of the folder where the shortcut is stored malware to exploit the vulnerability. It is not even necessary to run the shortcut.
Unfortunately, with some recurrence in the slow to react to problems that continue to emerge, Microsoft has not announced when it will resolve the bug, which we assume will not come until the next "party patch," which touches on 10 August.

I do not think so hard, in short, the administrator who cares about security will have installed XP SP3 for some time. I guess the real problem is when they do not leave patches for SP3, at which time they will migrate to and buy new Windows license.
